Midfielder Luan underwent surgery on his left thigh on June 22. He was expected to miss the rest of the season in Sao Paulo. But the player started training with the team last Monday and was surprised by the quick recovery of a problem that was considered rare.
Impressive, I’ve never seen anything like it before. He had a very fast recovery process. It started with an adductor muscle injury and is being treated well by São Paulo – said Dr. Moises Cohen, who is in charge of Luanne’s surgery, in contact with General Electric.
Luan’s problem began in 2021, in the first training session led by Rogerio Ceni upon his return to the club. In an activity in Morumbi, the steering wheel had a tendon dislocation (dislocation of the muscle from the bone) in the adductor muscle of the left thigh.

The recovery that São Paulo chose at that time was traditional, without surgery. Luan only returned to action on March 16 this year – five months later – against Manaus, for the Copa do Brasil.
Even in the rear, the steering wheel cannot have a chainring. The lack of rhythm and the difficulty of reaching the ideal physical form were evident. After returning, there was almost 30 days of waiting for a new opportunity. In May, he played only two matches.
In early June, Luann won his debut opportunity in this year’s Brazilian League against Curitiba. The consistent match gave him the possibility to start acting again in the next match, against América-MG. But the second confrontation lasted only 22 minutes.

The pain Luan was feeling in the same freshly recovered left thigh worsened. He left the field in tears. The image aroused the concern of the fans and the club, as the player gave indications of his return to his best level.
Upon leaving Morumbi, Luann went straight to the hospital, and the diagnosis was repeated: tendon extraction of the adductor muscle of the left thigh. However, with an aggravating factor: examinations showed a bone edema of 13 cm, which is the main cause of pain. Doctors who saw the pictures wondered how the steering wheel was able to rehearse this problem.
This time around, it was the unanimous decision to have surgery, something that could end Luanne’s season. The initial expectation was that recovery would take at least four months.
– There was calcification of the muscle, which is rare. And many people thought he wasn’t dedicating himself, he was a soft body, but the calcification was hampering his movements and his pain. I evaluated it and had to remove it. We took him out, said Dr. Moises Cohen, and surprisingly he was very fast.
– It usually takes three weeks to remove the stitches, but after ten days we removed them and they are already healed. I had the chance to check it out on CT 15 days ago and was impressed. He was already doing stretching exercises, for example. His muscles are very special, but it is also important to give glory to the medical team in Sao Paulo – he added.

In addition to the body responding well to recover, Luan had its share of contributing to the process. The midfielder began training in two shifts to speed up his comeback and received praise from the club for his dedication.

Despite his return to training with the team, the player still does not expect to return to matches. This will depend on a physical and even technical response over the next few weeks.
Luan’s return comes at a defining moment for Sao Paulo of the season. The team reached the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey and Copa Sudamericana – and is looking for better results in Brazil.
