Status: 01/21/2023 5:38 p.m.

RB Leipzig drew Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich and deserved a point. Goalkeeper Yann Sommer made his debut for the record champions in the first game after the winter break, but conceded when it was 1-1 (0-1).

Bayern Munich have thus secured the autumn championship for the 26th time. The world champion took advantage of SC Freiburg’s 6-0 loss to VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday. With 35 points, FC Bayern can no longer be dislodged from first place on Tuesday and Wednesday during the 17th day after the first part of the season. Due to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the fall champion could only be determined in 2023 and not in the fall as usual.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting gave the record champions the advantage at the start of the 16th day, Friday evening (February 20, 2023) (37th minute). Shortly after the start of the second half, Marcel Halstenberg equalized (52nd) for a deserved draw.

Rose attacked by personal worries

from Leipzig Coach Marco Rose was yet to be without his attacking star Christopher Nkunku, and Janis Blaswich also looked after the injured Peter. Gulacsi the caste of the Saxons. Striker Timo Werner, who was injured before the World Cup, started on the bench. In addition to Manuel Neuer, Bayern were still missing through injury Sadio Mane and the defenders Lucas Hernández and Noussair Mazraoui.

Although RB got off to a strong start, the guests created the first scoring chance of the match: after a diagonal pass from Leroy healthy drawn Serge Gnabry from 14 meters in the half-left position. Josko Gvardiol deflected the low shot and the ball hit the right post. As a result, Leipzig repeatedly managed to disrupt the flow of play for the record champions without being able to create scoring chances themselves.

Munich more convincing than Leipzig

Not so Bayern: After a ball stopped in midfield by Joshua Kimmich to the right of Benjamin Pavard, the ball tumbled over the left post after half an hour of play. Leon Goretzka dove low and headed the ball into the goal. But after a long VAR check, referee Daniel Siebert rightly did not recognize the goal because the Bayern defender Matthijs de Ligt attempted to reach Kimmich’s flank from an offside position and thus actively interfered in the game.

Bayern’s Alphonso Davies in action

Less than ten minutes later, Bayern took the lead: Gnabry crosses from the left with great precision in the race from Choupo Motingwho won against three companions in Leipzig jerseys and pushed the ball over the line to make it 1-0.

Leipzig strikes back

The game started unchanged in the second half: Leipzig played well with Bayern and gave Bayern Munich no chance. The somewhat surprising equalizer was, however, accompanied by violent protests from the guests: André Silva vehemently won against Kimmich. Szoboszlai didn’t quite catch his pass, but Halstenberg did, who pushed the ball past Sommer helplessly from close range.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann speaks after the 1-1 draw against Leipzig in the Bundesliga in an interview with a sports broadcast.

The Munich people criticized the use of Silva against Kimmich, the referee team quickly agreed and let the game continue. Kimmich told ‘DAZN’ after the match when asked if it would have been a foul: “No.”

The pace of the game accelerated accordingly, as did the intensity of the duels and discussions. The next climax in terms of excitement came after a foul from the ex-Leipziger Upamecano departing Szoboszlai. The Hungarian put the ball in front of him, “Upa” hit mine start working on-Try on the foot. Siebert ‘only’ showed the yellow to the Frenchman, which angered the hosts.

Exhausting final phase

A quarter of an hour from the end of the game, Bayern seemed to relaunch the final offensive. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann brought Kingsley Coman for the not very discreet Jamal Musiala this time, Thomas Müller came into play late. Rose sent Timo Werner and Lukas Klostermann into the race. But both teams lost their strength.

The first to struggle with cramps was the Leipzig defender mohamed simakan. And the nerves were also fading: Rose intervened too intensely from the touchline and saw a yellow card from referee Siebert.

Open exchange of blows between Bavaria and Leipzig

In the dying minutes, the two teams delivered an open exchange of shots in midfield with the greater chance for Leipzig with a hit and for Bayern with a Müller shot. In the end, it was a fair draw.

“It doesn’t suit me, we wanted to win”said Xaver Schlager from Leipzig on “DAZN”, “We played well in the second half. To go 1-1 is good, but certainly not satisfying.” “It didn’t work out 100% process-wise. But we’ll take the point with us.”, Sommer told “Sat.1.” About his transfer, he said: “It was very hectic and intense. I’m glad it worked out. I’m looking forward to the challenge at a really big club.”
