Cologne – HSV 2:0: Huseinbasic scores twice! Hamburg has problems

The wait is finally over! It’s been eight weeks since HSV played an official game, and they will again this Saturday: coach Tim Walter’s side will play their first friendly from 3.30pm in preparation for the second game of the season. The match will be played at the Franz Kremer Stadium against 1. FC Köln – four times 30 minutes. In the MOPO live ticker, you won’t miss any important scene in the game.

The game in the live ticker

Half time!

59 minutes After hectic minutes, HSV can break free and swing the game towards the opposing half. But only briefly! Cologne counters on the right and suddenly the ball returns to the goal. It’s Maina again, who hands it over to Huseinbasic like in the 2-0, who again targets the long corner and hits it again. However, Tigges was caught offside and in the line of sight of Heuer Fernandes, so the goal didn’t count.

57 minutes Almost the goal! HSV can break free playfully and Kittel has plenty of space on the left. The technician advances towards the penalty area and aims for the second post, where Jatta arrives a step too late.

56th minute Tim Walter’s side are currently just on the hunt, sometimes played and have little ball possession. Again, there is a corner for the “Effzeh”.

54th minute The Hamburgers now have real problems, we currently feel the class difference. Again, it’s Huseinbasic that has room in the sixteen. HSV can just round the corner.

50 min 2-0 for Cologne. It can go so fast. Because HSV is not clean in the passing game, the Cologne team runs again towards the Hamburg goal – and hits it too! Maina has too much space on the right side of the penalty area and plays in the backcourt based on Husein, who pushes the ball into the far corner eleven yards out.

48 min 1-0 for Cologne. But now it has happened. Hector crosses from the left, Tigges directly takes the ball a few meters from goal. Heuer Fernandes is late but can’t hold the ball and the ball lands in front of the legs of Huseinbasic, who shoots. Deserves leadership for hosts.

47 minutes Because Jatta gets Hector up, Cologne gets a free kick from the left. Kainz cuts the ball sharply in the direction of the goal, where Hector stands tall and maneuvers the ball towards the outside post in a technically demanding manner. Lucky for HSV!

45 minutes Jonas David has done a good job in central defense so far – although he puts Heuer Fernandes under pressure with a back pass. However, the goalkeeper is able to unblock the situation technically and is not challenged a little later because Hector heads wide after a cross from the left from eight meters.

43 minutes HSV is trying to create some relief. A promising situation comes to nothing as Kittel is offside on the right flank.

40 minutes Kainz is the most prominent player in the Cologne offensive. The ex-Bremer sends the ball just above 20 yards.

39 minutes It could have been 1-0 for Cologne – if it wasn’t necessary! Maina runs behind Kainz and collects the ball in the penalty area. He wants to push the ball from the left into the far corner from close range, but Heuer Fernandes extends his left leg and thus prevents the impact.

38 minutes Special guest at the stadium: Toni Leistner sits in the stands and watches the game of his two former clubs. He has not yet been allowed to attend many magnificent ball relays.

36 minutes So far, the second section has also mainly been in the HSV half. Even Glatzel backs up, wins the ball against Kainz and gets a free kick. A little later, Königsdörffer is also overthrown.

34 minutes HSV coach Tim Walter repeatedly shouts ‘high’ on the pitch and demands his pros run high over Cologne. It happens then too – but the Bundesliga side have been pretty sure of the ball so far.

33 minutes Despite the short break, the teams have yet to switch sides. This will only happen after 60 minutes.

31 minutes While Cologne have changed once (Olesen replaces Ljubicic), HSV approach the 30 seconds with an unchanged formation. Keep on going!

Break. The first 30 minutes of the game are played and the teams can breathe deeply. It remains at 0:0 for now.

30 minutes The mileage of both teams is extremely high, HSV and Cologne work intensively against the ball, this is another reason why big chances are still rare. An attack by the hosts is halted as Hector is flagged for offside.

28 minutes HSV has some space on offense, but in the end Mikelbrencis lost the pill. Köln counter again and there is – again – a corner because HSV can prevent worse.

26 minutes Jatta fouls Kainz and Cologne earns a free-kick from a dangerous position just before the edge of the penalty area. Kainz shoots himself, but gets stuck in the HSV wall.

24 minutes The game is characterized by standard situations. Cologne get a corner again – and again they don’t take advantage of it, HSV can clean it up.

22 minutes Luckily for Heuer Fernandes: the HSV keeper keeps the ball at his feet a bit too long and squanders it against the approaching Tigges. But Schonlau is close and can prevent the Cologne striker from simply pushing the ball into the empty net.

21 minutes Great action from HSV: Kittel and Meffert play a hoe-toe and the ball arrives at Reis. The Dutchman enters the penalty area, crosses from the left and finds David in the middle. His header is just blocked and Jatta’s raise from seven yards goes over. First good luck for HSV!

19 minutes Great opportunities are still lacking. Nevertheless, it should be noted that both teams take the game very seriously. A move by HSV to the right was wasted as Reis’ pass was too steep for Heyer.

17 minutes There is the next corner for the “Effzeh”. Kainz crosses, HSV can clear up after a bit of a fuss.

15 minutes After a long ball, Maina has space on the right side of Cologne. Schonlau and Mikelbrencis win the ball together.

14 minutes Kittel briefly executes the free kick and passes to Reis. He shoots from 30 yards, but the shot is blocked for a corner.

13 minutes HSV back pressing is still a little bumpy. The Hamburgers slowly become safer with the ball. Schonlau passes the ball to midfield and gets a free kick.

11 minutes Hosts are more active in attack. This time it’s Ljubicic who is stopped in the penalty area by Schonlau. The next corner turns off.

9 minutes Jatta has the ball in the opposing half and wastes it. Cologne replied again, Kainz’s long shot was blocked by the HSV defence.

8 minutes After a fine play from Cologne down the left, the ball lands on Huseinbasic, who shoots from the edge of the penalty area – but misses.

6 minutes Unknown plot: Because Leibold and Muheim are both left-backs, Mikelbrencis starts at left-back. He is directly involved in Hamburg’s warm-up play, which was also brave this afternoon.

4 minutes The first corner for “Effzeh” is directly followed by the second – and it will be dangerous! Sainz crosses with the left and finds Tigges’ head, but he spits the leather clear to the right.

3 minutes Both teams run straight. The first offensive action belongs to Cologne: Sainz passes to Tigges, whose shot Jonas David can parry to the corner.

2 minutes HSV had to make a change in the starting XI at short notice. In place of Laszlo Bénes, Ransford Königsdörffer starts. Davie Selke doesn’t start for Cologne either – Steffen Tigges will play for him first.

1 minute Here we are!

to start up!

  • The “Effzeh” begins with the following eleven professionals: Horn – Schmitz, Hubers, Ljubicic, Huseinbasic, Kainz, Hector, Chabot, Selke, Skhiri, Maina. Former Werder striker Davie Selke, who was recently signed by Hertha BSC, can start straight away.
  • In addition to the injured Anssi Suhonen, Tom Mickel and Elijah Krahn are also absent from the squad for the friendly match (both in training). As HSV announced on Twitter, Tim Leibold (private reasons) and Miro Muheim (bruise after a pressing blow in training) are not in the squad.
  • HSV starts with the following starting XI: Heuer Fernandes – Heyer, David, Schonlau, Mikelbrencis – Meffert – Reis, Bénes – Jatta, Glatzel, Kittel. Recovered Heyers and Jattas can start immediately. Matheo Raab, Filip Bilbija, Ransford Königsdörffer, Xavier Amaechi, Jean-Luc Dompé, Valon Zumberi, Omar Megeed, Ogechika Heil, Bent Andresen, Tom Sanne, Jesse Kilo and Nicolas Oliveira Kisilowski are on the bench.
  • The people of Hamburg have very fond memories of the Cologne team: almost exactly a year ago, on January 18, 2022, the Rothosen made an appearance in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup in the cathedral city – and won a spectacular match 4:3 after a penalty shootout. Although the match will not take place today at the RheinEnergieSTADION, around 5,000 spectators are still expected.
  • Young Anssi Suhonen is temporarily unavailable. The HSV Finn injured his thigh tendon during training on Friday and didn’t even start.
  • HSV coach Tim Walter announced earlier this week that all of his professionals would be deployed. It will be exciting to see how the recovered Bakery Jatta and Moritz Heyer (both torn ankle ligaments) are in good shape again. We can also expect Jonas David to work in central defense with Sebastian Schonlau. David is considered an individual replacement for Mario Vuskovic, who was found guilty of doping.
  • It’s the first test kick of the new year for both teams. In three weeks (January 29), HSV will host Eintracht Braunschweig at the Volksparkstadion, the “Effzeh”, for the start of the second half of the season – currently Table 13. Bundesliga – is back in competition mode a week more early: The team coached by Steffen Baumgart, who previously had warm words for HSV, will play in the league against Werder Bremen on January 21.
  • An unfamiliar format awaits the teams today: the match will be played in four times 30 minutes. Before HSV leave for training camp in Spain (Sotogrande) next week, they will take part in an indoor tournament in Gummersbach on Sunday – and Lukas Podolski will be there.
  • Hello and welcome to the MOPO live ticker on Saturday afternoon! HSV meet 1. FC Köln at the start of the year, the friendly match at the Franz Kremer stadium starts at 15:30.
