He was not in Munich for the medical visit. There has also been no agreement yet on a whirlwind move to Bayern.
On the contrary, Yann Sommer trained on Tuesday (January 3, 2023) at Borussia Park.
The 34-year-old Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper is reportedly set to move to Bayern Munich this winter and close the personnel gap at the record champions, which was caused by the ski accident and serious injury of the regular goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (36).
Gladbach coach Farke: ‘I’m very relaxed about it’
Sommer, whose contract in Gladbach expires on June 30, 2023, has already presented his wish to move to Säbener Straße with the greats of Borussia around president Rolf Königs (81), general manager Stephan Schippers (55) and director sportsman Roland Virkus (56).
But what is the next step?
GladbachLIVE learns: Summer move to Bayern Munich not done yet. On Tuesday evening, Borussia’s decision-makers did not receive a transfer offer from Munich that they would be ready to give the Swiss national player the green light quickly.
And: Gladbach would be under a lot of pressure to act with an immediate summer exit. A summer replacement is expected to step in immediately, as the season is set to end with Tobias Sippel (34) and Jan Olschowsky (21), for whom there is unlikely to be a majority in the VfL decision-making bodies.
With the Swiss Yvon Mvogo (FC Lorient), Gladbach have already spotted a possible summer successor, but the 28-year-old is currently injured and is not currently an option for a flash transfer.
The summer question of the winter transfer window on the left bank of the Bas-Rhin – it is more complex than it seems at first sight, even if an exceptional club, a great player like FC Bayern, tackles the Gladbach goalkeeper.
It would send a certain signal if Borussia were to lose one of Europe’s best goalkeepers prematurely after two turbulent years in which they lost two coaches (Marco Rose, Adi Hütter) and a sporting director (Max Eberl). .
In the midst of a phase in which manager Virkus and new coach Daniel Farke (46) have managed to stabilize the team and the club so that the Fohlen-Elf can return to the group of Cup contenders from Europe this season.
A winter departure of Yann Sommer, goalkeeper of this class, would be a factor in such a mixture which could affect Gladbach in the rest of the season.
With his goalkeeper game, the Swiss fits perfectly into the “Borussia way”, the ball possession game to which the club has once again committed under Farke and Virkus.
Sommer is not only strong with his hands and feet when defending against the ball, but he is also an excellent two-footed player.
Replacing such leaders and top performers in the winter transfer market under time pressure is really no easy task.
So it should come as no surprise that head coach Daniel Farke made his views clear when he asked GladbachLIVE on Tuesday about Sommer’s potential whirlwind move to FC Bayern.
Farke: “It is quite normal that there is always speculation about good players. I have often expressed my appreciation for Yann, he is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. He shows year after year what quality and what value he has for us, he is very important in his position. I’m very relaxed, he’s our number one and he has a contract until the summer.”
Farke also points out: “We have no intention of giving him up, why should we give up a goalkeeper like that? There must be very good reasons for wanting to give up a player of such quality. On the contrary, we want to extend with Yann. There will now also be talks in due course.
GladbachLIVE continues to follow up on Farke about Sommer, the coach still clearly responds: “I’m not worried that Yann will no longer be with us tomorrow (Wednesday, editor’s note). Of course, you can never exclude anything in football, Crazy things can always happen, but the facts are very clear: we have one of the best goalkeepers in Europe under contract, we are ambitious, we want to continue to perform well and for that we need Yann Sommer. why should we want to give it up? We have no aspiration after that.
Means: The transfer poker between Gladbach and Bayern around Yann Sommer has not yet reached the phase in which Borussia should withdraw its transfer veto for financial reasons.
Especially since the Corona crisis hit Gladbach in the heart economically, but as we discovered in our further research, the club is still financially positioned in such a way that it does not have to participate in all market activities transfers at any price.
Nevertheless: Bayern want the summer, apparently luring the Swiss with a lucrative offer. And it says in the scene that the Munich people always get what they really want to achieve in the transfer market.
Can Borussia really repel the Bavarian transfer offensive this winter this summer? It would certainly be a strong piece (Virkus)!
By the way, the window for change in this country closes on January 31.
