To mark the occasion, Mick Schumacher posted a touching photo of him and his father just before Christmas and just a few days before the anniversary of the drama. The 23-year-old, who will follow in his father’s footsteps in a new role at Mercedes in the upcoming F1 season, shared the profile picture on his Instagram account. In the new photo, little Mick can be seen on Michael Schumacher’s arm as he puts his arm around his dad and hugs him lovingly.

A day after Christmas Eve, Mick also shared a family photo of himself, his sister Gina and his mother Corinna Schumacher. The three of them are sitting in front of three Christmas trees in the living room on the sofa with their dogs and seem happy. “Merry Christmas”, wishes Mick. However, Michael Schumacher is absent from the picture, fans miss their former hero. “Michael is gone” and “Merry Christmas to Michael too,” read the many comments.

Mick’s Formula 1 mentor Sebastian Vettel also thought of his friend Michael Schumacher over Christmas. The Heppenheimer posted a childhood memory of himself and his idol on Instagram on Christmas Eve. Young Vettel stands tall in a green racing suit with a trophy in his hand alongside Michael Schumacher, who is apparently leading the awards ceremony after a children’s race at the Kerpen go-kart track.

“Or not? Michael, I’m on your heels,” Vettel wrote of the photo. Schumacher is the record-breaking Formula 1 world champion with seven world titles, and Vettel has been crowned champion four times. The 35-year-old ended his career on November 20 but a return for Vettel to Formula 1 is “not ruled out”.

This isn’t the first time Vettel has shared a photo of himself and Michael Schumacher. In recent weeks, he posted several childhood photos of him and his father Norbert on the go-kart track. In one photo, Vettel looks up at Schumacher and calls him “my idol and friend Michael Schumacher”. Not much is known about his condition, but Schumi’s Swiss neighbors unpacked: ‘He was among us’.
